Being both a photographer and a mum is a beautiful mix of chaos, creativity and heart. I get to capture families, weddings and special milestones for others all while raising my own little crew of four. It’s busy, it’s messy, it’s full of love - and somehow, we make it work.
People often ask how I manage to juggle it all: the sessions, editing, emails, school runs and family dinners. The truth is, it’s not always perfectly balanced (and that’s okay). But over time, I’ve found a rhythm that lets me show up fully - both for my business and for my family.
Here’s a little peek behind the scenes of how I make it all work.
I’ve Learned to Be Intentional with My Time
With four kids, time is precious so I’ve learned to plan my work around the moments that matter most.
I shoot sessions during times that suit my family’s routine, often in the evenings or weekends and dedicate quieter weekday hours to editing and admin – usually when everyone is at school.
Having structure helps, but I also give myself flexibility. Some weeks the balance leans more toward work; other weeks, I pull back to focus on home life. It’s about adjusting rather than striving for perfection.
My Husband Is My Biggest Support
I couldn’t do what I do without my husband. He’s the steady anchor who helps with school runs, bedtime routines and cheering me on when things get busy.
Running a small business takes a lot of behind the scenes hours - from planning shoots to editing late at night. His support makes it all possible. It truly is a team effort.
I Involve My Kids in My World
My kids have grown up around cameras, locations and clients and I love that they get to see their mum doing something creative that brings joy to others.
Sometimes they “help” me pack gear or tag along for a sunset location scout. I hope they see that hard work and passion can build something beautiful.
It’s important to me that they know I love what I do, but that family always comes first.
I Give Myself Grace
There are days when the house is messy, my inbox is overflowing and dinner is cereal - and that’s okay.
I’ve learned to give myself grace instead of chasing perfection. Every family I photograph reminds me that life’s most beautiful moments are often the imperfect ones - and that applies to motherhood too.
I Protect My Creative Energy
Photography isn’t just my job - it’s my creative outlet. To keep my passion alive, I make space for rest, inspiration and personal projects.
That might mean taking an afternoon off with my family or saying no to something that doesn’t align with my style or values.
When I’m refreshed and inspired, I can give my clients the very best of me and that’s something I’ll never compromise on.
I Remind Myself Why I Started
At the heart of it, my photography business was born from my love of connection - both within my own family and the families I photograph.
Capturing real, raw, love filled moments reminds me daily of how fast time passes and how precious these seasons are.
My business and my motherhood aren’t separate - they fuel each other. The love, patience and perspective I’ve gained as a mum make me a better photographer and the creativity from photography helps me show up as a more present mum.
Balancing business and mum life isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about finding what works for you and embracing the messy, magical middle.
To every other mum out there chasing a dream while raising a family: you’re doing amazing. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
And to my clients - thank you for trusting me to capture your families while I grow my own. It means more than you know.
